LEBANON - Jacqueline D. (Brooks) Owens, 86 of Lebanon, CT, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 11, 2017. She was born in Rexfield, Iowa to the late Leonard and Mary (Washington) Brooks. She was the wife of the late Burton Owens of Ohio. Jacqueline served as the Norwich Branch President of the NAACP for 30 years. Her efforts to educate the community and make them aware of the need to unite and work together were very successful. She loved her community and dedicated her life to serving it. After retiring from the NAACP she continued to mentor and consult others who wanted to follow in her footsteps. Jacqueline loved the Lord and was a longtime member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in New London, CT. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends and the community as a whole. A celebration of her life will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Jacqueline D. Owens Auditorium at the Kelly Middle School, 25 Mahan Drive in Norwich, CT. Calling hours will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service in the auditorium. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London.
